Is it possible for a human being to physically survive in the heavens for thousands of years? Does the Holy Quran support the idea of a physical ascension, or does it affirm that the natural laws of life and death apply to every human being—including the Prophets of God?

This course addresses one of the most vital questions in Islamic theology: Is Jesus (as) alive or dead? This inquiry is central to our dialogue with the wider Muslim world and is fundamental to understanding the true status of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) and the claims of the Promised Messiah (as).

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, mentioning the importance of this topic writes:

“Keep in mind that for the sake of testing our truth or falsehood and those of our opponents, the death or life of Jesus (as) is the criterion. If Jesus (as) is indeed alive, then all our claims are false and all our arguments are worthless. But if he is indeed dead according to the Quran, then our opponents are in the wrong. Now the Quran is the arbiter between us. Think over it.” > — (Tuhfah-e-Golarviyyah, RuhaniKhazain, Vol. 18, p. 264, Footnote)

While the Promised Messiah (as) presented 30 distinct verses in his book Izala-e-Awham to prove the natural death of Jesus (as), this course focuses on four foundational verses. We will analyze these verses alongside supporting evidence from the Ahadith and the commentaries of classical scholars:

1. 3:145: A study of the universal declaration that “all Messengers” before the Holy Prophet (sa) have passed away, leaving no room for exceptions.
2. 5:118-119: An examination of Jesus’ (as) own testimony on the Day of Judgment, proving his ignorance of his followers’ later deviations.
3. 3:56: A linguistic breakdown of the word Mutawaffika, explaining why the promise of a “natural death” must precede spiritual exaltation.
4. 4:159: A clarification of the word Rafa’a. We will explain how this refers to a dignified, spiritual exaltation rather than a physical ascent, proving Jesus (as) did not die an “accursed” death on the cross.
